Getting Real About The Health Risk Of An Unorganized Life

Do you remember that saying? Life will either make you or break you! I couldn't imagine, that anyone would want life to break them. We all have the desire to enjoy life and what it has to offer. Many people are drowning in the clutter that surrounds them, not being able to come up for air. People see them as though they have it all together, but really on the inside they are crumbling to pieces.

You may be thinking. Okay, what does this have to do with organization? Stress, anxiety and fear is the number one cause of depression in the united states alone. According to CNN, stress is the number cause of death in American. Think about it for a second. Stress eventually turns into pressure on your mind, body and soul; causing heart attacks or strokes. Here is the science behind it. Neuroscience researchers at the Princeton University published the results of a study relating to uncluttered and organized living; finding that multiple stimuli present in the visual field at the same time compete for neural representation by mutually suppressing their evoked activity throughout visual cortex, providing a neural correlate for the limited processing capacity of the visual system.

For lack of better words, saying that When your environment is cluttered, the chaos restricts your ability to focus. The clutter also limits your brain’s ability to process information. Clutter keeps you distracted and unable to process information as well as you do in an uncluttered, organized, and tranquil environment. Clutter overloads your senses, just like multitasking overloads your brain, causing you to be stressed out and anxious. Ever hear someone say they can not think straight? It’s their brain kicking into mental overload, because of the things that surrounded them in that very moment.

Let’s apply this to your everyday life. Picture yourself having a long stressful day, and I mean long, entering your home to another big ball of chaos. Your brain then goes into metal overload shocking you to the point of a mental breakdown or as some refer to as meltdowns. The clutter competes for your attention like a two-year-old crying at your feet “juice, juice, juice”, while you are on the phone. Clutter is not a good sport, you will feel out of control wanting to give up. At that point, life has just broken you. But there is hope!  Organization is something that can help you reduce your stress, giving you back the control in your life. Although organization doesn’t solve all problems, it can help you solve more than some.

Home is supposed to be a safe-haven guarding you against the demands of the outside world. A place where you can experience complete peace and relaxation. The onsite of stress caused by clutter can cause prolonged depression and other mental health issues. This causes you to not be enjoyable to be around, some may gain weight, or you don't rest well at night. Your dream team might look like a professional organizer, a therapist, a doctor or a workout buddy. Whatever your team looks like you must start somewhere. Why not start with the more obvious issue at this moment, the one that you can physically control. Being unorganized. Clutter distracts you causing you to waste time and money. Professional organizers can help you create new habits, jump-starting your way to a happy healthier life. Once you free up your space you free up your mind. Enjoy life, don't be overwhelmed by it.
